ESPN: No Love Lost

Emmy Award Winning design for "Outstanding New Approaches", No Love Lost is a web design project showcasing the century-long struggle of the Chicago Cubs. For years, the Chicago baseball fans have dealt with the agony of defeat in hopes of seeing their team achieve the true thrill of victory one day. From 100 year old fan, Richard Savage, to Billy Corgan, lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins; this project showcases Chicago Cubs baseball fans over the course of 100 years.

I had the the honor of working on the web design surrounding the video documentaries to present this piece as an online feature for ESPN. The goal was to highlight the fans and present the videos in a way that truly encompassed the heritage of baseball in Chicago. After many discussions and comps, the best approach was to utilize the infamous scoreboard at Chicago stadium. While, a recognizable piece of history at this field, it would be used as a design framework to creatively implement the navigation, a few historical facts and the homepage opening trailer for this presentation.

If you look closely throughout the design, you'll notice a few hidden elements, and most diehard Chicago Cubs fans will quickly catch on. Hint: the scoreboard features of one the most agonizing losses in recent Chicago history. Other elements include dates, times and subtle elements added tot he scoreboard to give this piece a personal touch, without compromising the true reverence for the history of baseball in Chicago.

The visual goal was to make this design stand out, but have a vintage look to show a visual feeling of heritage, longevity and history with the city, the team and the fans. The story of each fan is so personal and powerful that the design called to be just as personal and powerful, not just for Cubs fans, but everyone.

This design was awarded an Emmy Award for "Outstanding New Approaches". I had the pleasure of working with an amazing group of people.
